NGX Marine Breakaway Coupling for Ship & Offshore Loading

The TODO NGX Marine Breakaway Coupling is a high‑safety marine breakaway coupling designed for offshore and ship‑to‑shore transfer operations.

Engineered specifically for dynamic marine environments, this offshore breakaway coupling prevents spillages and protects equipment during the loading and unloading of hazardous liquids. The coupling safely disconnects when excessive straight‑pull force is applied, reducing the risk of hose rupture caused by vessel movement, tidal motion, or operational error.

Like TODO’s standard NGX breakaway coupling, the marine version delivers a market‑leading flow rate with minimal pressure drop, ensuring efficient and safe transfer in demanding offshore conditions.

What Is a Marine Breakaway Coupling?

Offshore and marine transfer operations are exposed to dynamic forces that are not present in onshore environments. Vessel movement, tidal variation, and wave action can introduce significant stress on hoses and transfer systems during loading and offloading.

Marine breakaway couplings are a critical safety component within marine transfer systems, designed to disconnect in a controlled manner when excessive straight‑pull forces occur, preventing equipment damage and environmental spills. Unlike standard marine couplings or marine flexible couplings, which accommodate movement within a system, breakaway couplings provide an additional safety layer by isolating the flow during abnormal load events.

The NGX Marine Breakaway Coupling is engineered specifically for offshore applications, remaining stable during normal marine motion while disconnecting reliably only when abnormal loads are detected. This makes it a trusted solution for ship‑to‑shore transfer, bunkering, and other marine loading operations involving hazardous liquids.

The NGX Breakaway Coupling boasts a rapid closure mechanism to minimize product loss and is ideal for a variety of applications:
• Offered in sizes from 2-4 inches
• Leading market flow rate and low pressure drop
• Encapsulated shear bolts for reliable operation
• Functions independently from shut-off safety systems
• Effective release function at any force angle
• Simple on-site reset capability

Whether used in chemical transfer, tanker loading, or terminal operations, NGX breakaway couplings deliver proven performance and reliable accident protection.

Customizable Options for Your Breakaway Coupling Needs

The standard units come with 3mm shear pins, which typically provide optimal stress resistance. However, as with all TODO products, NGX Breakaway Coupling can be customized with either aluminum or high-grade stainless steel, and fitted with a selection of O-ring materials to ensure perfect compatibility with your application.

FAQs

A marine breakaway coupling disconnects when excessive straight‑pull force is applied to the transfer line. In offshore and marine environments, this can occur due to unexpected vessel movement, tidal changes, or operational error during loading and unloading. Once the preset load limit is exceeded, the coupling separates safely and closes both ends to minimise spillage.
